Sandia Labyrinth

I've been wanting to put together a more complete view of my work, Sandia Labyrinth, but it's been very busy recently. So I've decided to just throw together this page with an overview of what I've accomplished before it's overrun by development.

The Sandia Labyrinth started around Summer Solstice of 2006. I had been using my walks in the desert as a way to mediate, think on my career, my art and my time here in New Mexico. After several weeks of exploring an undeveloped area of land near my house, I found a place that felt perfectly well suited for a labyrinth. There were plenty of natural stones around and the area had very little plant life on it, so I got started right away. Here's a shot soon after I got started.

Within just a week or two, I had gotten the basic outline set up. Being able to go out and work in the heat of the day was a great theraputic activity for me, so I went out as often as I could.

By the end of July, the form was filling out and I was able to walk the labyrinth before and after I did any work for the day. Sitting in the center of the labyrinth and just taking in the vista of the Sandias were what gave the labyrinth it's name.

By early August, 2006, I was focusing a lot more time on the details of the structure. The center space and the very large stones that I was carrying over were the majority of work at this phase. All the work done on the project was done by hand alone. I moved all the stones and used no tools to carry or arrange the stones.
