Sandia Labyrinth Completed - August 6, 2006
Over the next few months, I worked on other projects near by and tinkered with the Labyrinth, but the major structure was finished, so I took this series of shots.
Post Script:
Now there are some developers that are moving in to build some high end houses. At first this really bothered me, but I knew when I built the Labyrinth, that it wouldn't be there forever. This project was a fantastic opportunity for me to get out into the heat and dig my toes into the sand. This was the most satisfying project I've worked on and I feel blessed to have had an entire year with the Labyrinth to walk, think, and meditate.
Since I finished it, more people have found it. I've seen tracks in and around the labyrinth, which makes me very happy. The bulldozers will very likely have to tear up most or all of it for the road that currently stops right at the edge. I hold no grudge against their work either and I knew that when I put it down that the land belonged to someone else.
Now, as I prepare to head back to California for a new job opportunity, I hope that a few more people will have a chance to walk the Labyrinth and stare at the Sandias as well and feel the serenity and majesty that New Mexico has to offer.
To show a bit more of how this project felt for me, check out the Flash Animation I put together this spring to commemorate the Labrinth: Labyrinth Meditation (needs sound)
